The present Core courses MFVC & EDFVC of 18 months duration are proposed to be upgraded from 18 months upgrading syllabus concentrating practical and on-board training. The present courses are recognized and approved by D G Shipping for appearing for MFV & EDFV. It is also proposed to recognize these upgraded courses on par with any trade certificates so that the candidates passing out of the Core courses will be having multiple job training in shore as well as on board fishing vessels.
The 10th Plan has given emphasis on development of traditional fisheries sector of the country. With the additional impact on mechanization of the fishing vessels the need for comprehensive knowledge on the machineries and equipment available on board and a preliminary training is becoming necessary in the days to come. CIFNET, therefore, proposes to introduce new preparatory courses for the fishermen of short-term duration of 3 months both in engine and deck side so that they will be acquainted with the basic seamanship and navigational and engineering knowledge.
As a service to the traditional fishing sector, CIFNET proposes to conduct extension programmes in various fishing localities to train the fishermen in specialised subjects like operation and maintenance of in-board and out-board engines, safety manning practices etc.
During the current year CIFNET has diversified its activities to impart short term training on specialized subjects like Nautical Science, Fishery Technology and Marine Engineering for the under Graduates and post Graduates students of the Colleges and Universities and also the faculty members of the Colleges and Universities. CIFNET proposes to strengthen these activities for the benefit of this section of candidates.
CIFNET proposes to conduct STCW courses for the benefit of the candidates in the fishing and the marine sector.
Project works for College students The College under Graduate and Post Graduate students of fishery disciplines or Engineering students who require assistance in undertaking their technical project reports as a part of their curriculum will be given guidance for undertaking projects in specialized subjects like Marine Engines, Marine Refrigeration, Nautical Science, Fishing Gear Technology. Operation and maintenance of marine engines Small boat owners and other operators of marine engines face enumerable operational problems connecting the main engines & accessories on their vessels. Delay in solving these problems directly affect on the income of these operators. The institute therefore proposes to diversify the activities by taking consultancy services from such operators to analysis and solve the technical problems concerning to operation and maintenance of marine diesel engines, their accessories, power transmission systems etc.
