Shrimp Trawl Fishing
CIFNET in association with the Institute of Marine Research, Bergen, Norway was identified for the conduct of Selective Shrimp Trawl Fishing operation. The Institute’s 28 m. trawler M. V. Skipper III in the Northeastern coast carried out the experiment during 1995-96. As a result of the experimentation CIFNET has acquired technical and scientific expertise to carry out CIFNET programmes independently.
GWTN trawl could be introduced in the industrial outrigger vessels operating on the North east coast of India with the advantage of eliminating juvenile fish much better than the square mesh panel system and improve the catch of quality fishes without reducing the shrimp catch.
