Contribution
in the Training Front:
To
the Fishing Industry
Due to the
developmental Plans formulated by Govt., 40 Mexican design
trawlers were added initially to the larger fishing fleet of the
nation during 60s and 70s, which were operated by Central &
State Government fisheries agencies for survey and experimental
fishing. The
encouraging results in locating potentially rich fishing grounds
and the confidence gained in the operation by the operating
personnel, pushed the private entrepreneurs to venture into
fishing from early 70s and to establish it as an export oriented
industry.
The two decades from mid seventies had witnessed the
peak of Shrimp fishery in Indian waters.
Requirement
of operative personnel for fishing vessels, basically centred on
statutory laws. Merchant
Shipping Act 1958 was more specific on the manning requirement for
larger fishing vessels. Manning
rules of fishing vessel operatives as per M.S. Act 1995 is as
under.
